Thermal Hog Hunting in Texas

No. Feral hogs are classified as an invasive species in Texas, and you do not need a hunting license to take them on private property with the landowner's permission. Every acre we hunt is private land we have permission on. If you want to take coyotes, bobcats or other non-target species during the hunt, you will need a Texas hunting license — a five-day non-resident license is inexpensive and available online from TPWD or at any sporting goods store.

Three to four hunters per guide. We run five guides, so a big party does not turn into a crowd — a group of sixteen splits into four small teams working separate ground, not sixteen rifles following one man around a field. Small teams stalk better, stay quieter, and everybody actually shoots.

Over 100,000 acres of private ground spread across large and small ranches near Palestine, Huntsville and Mexia. That much land is the whole point. We are never forced to hunt pressured ground, and we can move your hunt to whichever property is holding hogs on your dates.

We run all the major brands: Trijicon, AGM, Pulsar and DNT. Every hunter gets their own rifle with a thermal scope on it — you are not sharing a gun or waiting your turn behind it. Guides also carry handheld thermals for scanning.

Depends on the night. Calibers we run include 7.62x39, 6.5 Grendel, .308, 5.56, .300 Blackout and .338 ARC, though not every rifle is in the truck on every hunt. If there is something specific you want to shoot, ask when you book and we will tell you what is available for your dates.

Six to eight hours. We start at dark and hunt the productive part of the night. Most Texas thermal outfits run three or four hours and call it a night; we stay out until the hunt is finished.

Private ranches near Palestine, Huntsville and Mexia. Palestine is our home ground in the Trinity River bottom. Huntsville puts us about an hour from Houston. Mexia covers the Waco and Central Texas corridor. Your hunt is assigned to whichever property is holding hogs best on your dates.

Yes. Let us know when you book so your guide can plan around it. Everything you need is already included in the hunt price, so bringing your own is entirely optional.

No. Every hunt opens with a safety and equipment briefing, and your guide walks you through the thermal optic before you ever load a rifle. Thermal is actually easier to shoot than a daytime scope for most first-timers. We take complete beginners regularly.

Yes. Bring a cooler with ice. Pigs under about 150 pounds are the best eating. If you do not want the meat, we take care of disposal at no charge. Ask about field dressing and processing when you book.

There is no closed season. We hunt hogs year-round, seven nights a week. Winter nights are longer and cooler, which makes for comfortable hunting and good meat handling. Summer hunts start later and hogs move harder to water. Both produce.

Good boots you can walk and stalk in, dark or earth-toned clothing appropriate for the weather, a small flashlight, and a cooler with ice if you want meat. Skip anything stiff or noisy. Rifles, thermal scopes, suppressors, tripods and ammunition are all provided.

Yes, and this is the only place in Texas you can do it at this level. Cast and blast means a daytime trip on the Trinity River for trophy alligator gar followed by a thermal hog hunt after dark, booked through one outfit. Your fishing guide and your hunting guide may be two different people — we assign whoever is best on the water and best on the ground for your dates. Call for a custom quote.

Palestine is roughly two hours from Dallas. Huntsville is roughly an hour from Houston and about ninety minutes from The Woodlands. Mexia sits between Dallas and Waco. Most of our clients drive in the afternoon, hunt that night, and drive home or stay over.

Yes. We have partners in Palestine including the Ellisor Lodge, a 10,000 square foot facility in the Trinity River bottom, plus hotels, an estate vineyard and ranch stays. Those same options work for the Mexia property. For Huntsville we have separate options closer to that ranch — call and we will match you to your dates. Lodging is not included in the base hunt price.
